Why capacitance matters

Almost all of the audible difference between instrument cables comes down to one thing: total capacitance. In coax it is measured per foot, so a longer cable always has more. That is why an expensive cable can sound worse than a cheap one, and why neither low nor high is simply better.

The Vari-Cap builds a miniature hexadecimal encoder into a 10-foot, extremely low capacitance cable, a patented design that gives you 16 settings at your fingertips.
